Cyprus

Cyprus is the eastern most island on the Mediterranean sea, with over 300 days of sunshine, clean air, wide open spaces and modern facilities that makes it a dream destination to have a holiday home or if you are lucky enough to move or retire to. The laid back lifestyle and low cost of living make it a great place to call home.

Cyprus is rich with history that dates back to 10,000 BC with many findings from many civilizations that keep surfacing regularly. Being in the crossroads of three continents (Africa, Asia and Europe) has brought many travelers and conquerers to its shores throughout its history. Cyprus was a British colony until 1961 when it became an independent country. The official language are Greek and Turkish and English is widely spoken.

The island has been split between Greek Cypriots in the south and Turkish Cypriots in the north since 1974 when Turkey invade the island after violence between the two communities. Both sides are working hard to resolve the situation and join both sides together again and there seems to be very positive signs from both sides in recent years.

Today Cyprus is a very modern EU country that has had over 2 million tourist for the last few years and shows no sign of slowing down, even with the current global crisis it is a great affordable destination that caters to tourists from all over the world.

Cyprus’s is also is the birth place of the mythycal goddess of love Aphrrodite and the place where she was to have floated to the shores ( Petra Tou Romiou) is a very popular spot.  Just as Aphrodite was said to make every man that saw her fall in love, Cyprus has the same spellbound effect from her natural beauty.   Two of the main reasons why Cyprus is a place where many newly wed’s plan their marriage or honeymoons there.
